Welcome to Suwannee River

This rural area is filled with undeveloped rivers, tributaries, and coastlines. The lack of development and the wealth of it natural resources makes Dixie a great area for paddling.The area is home to many county parks, state preserves, and the LOWER SUWANNEE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE (LSNWR). Some of the special and common wildlife of the area are manatee, bald eagles, otters, red-shouldered hawks, and kingfishers, and an array of coastal birds. The area offers great fishing.

Experience Nature

Dixie County is home to some of Florida’s most pristine artificial reefs and abundant fishing grounds. If you are ready for some inshore fishing, we have a shoreline full of creeks, inlets, and oyster bars, which host red drum, spotted seatrout, sheepshead, and flounder, to name a few. If you enjoy venturing out, the abundant fishing grounds and new artificial reefs will provide you with great catches like grouper, seabass, snapper, and mackerel.

Following the abandoned rail lines that were once an essential part of the Suwannee River Valley’s transportation, there are a multitude of activities available on the Nature Trail.
